Breastfeeding Support Professionals Scholarship 2020 Awardees
The Connecticut Breastfeeding Coalition (CBC) is pleased to announce the winners of the Breastfeeding Support Professionals Scholarship for 2020! There were many applicants representing a range of communities, experiences, and professional aspirations. These top six awardees and all of the applicants represent a long standing commitment in our communities to protect, promote and support breastfeeding and are truly inspiring. The awardees are all seeking the International Board Certified Lactation Counselor credential and are actively involved in their communities.
The scholarship was open to CT residents who identify with at least one group historically under-represented in the lactation support field including, but not limited to, Black/African American, Latinx, American Indian/Native American/Indigenous, Asian, Native Hawaiian/ other Pacific Islander, and LGBTQIA/gender fluid AND who are pursuing education, training or certification in lactation support.
Research tells us that breastfeeding/chestfeeding is the optimal nutrition for babies. More people can achieve their goals if they have available, affordable support from a person who looks like them. The Connecticut Breastfeeding Coalition, in partnership with the CT Department of Public Health, aims to increase the number of lactation support providers who come from the communities they serve, including Certified Lactation Counselors (CLCs), International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs), nurses who are Breastfeeding Counselors (BCs), and others. Diversity at all levels of support is important!
Made possible with funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
