My name is Danielle Blakney. I am a wife and mother of three children, all of whom I’ve breastfed. I work out of Yale New Haven Hospital as a WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor and Certified Lactation Counselor. Working in the lactation field has exposed me to the health disparities that African American women face regarding breastfeeding. I want to become an IBCLC to help facilitate change, not only by educating women about breastfeeding but other healthcare professionals as well.
