Board Of Director Application!

The Connecticut Breastfeeding Coalition (CBC) is seeking 2 nominees to serve on our Board of Directors (BOD) including the office of Chair-Elect.

As an all-volunteer organization, our Board members are responsible for the governance of the organization as well as follow-through on coalition activities. CBC Board members are passionate about our mission and bring a variety of different life experiences and roles to our work. Our coalition would benefit from new Board members who identify as Black, Indigenous or Person of Color (BIPOC) as well as other individuals who identify from historically marginized communities in  the breastfeeding field including LGBTQIA and gender non-conforming persons and men.

The CBC is seeking individuals to serve on the BOD for a two-year term, June 1, 2022 - May 31, 2024. For example, you might step in as an officer, lead or co-lead one of the six sector committees, help with the monthly membership meetings, advocate with State legislators, or serve as a rep to the United States Breastfeeding Committee. Board members are expected to attend at least 4 quarterly board meetings, as many membership meetings as possible, respond timely to requests between meetings, and serve on special committees such as Racial Equity and Board Nominating.

As outlined in 2011 Surgeon General’s Call to Action (SGCTA) for Breastfeeding, the CBC’s aim is to advocate for access to comprehensive, current, and culturally appropriate lactation care and service for all women, children, and families.
To ensure that human milk feeding is recognized as the normal and preferred method of feeding infants and young children.
  • To ensure that all Federal, State, and local laws relating to child welfare and family law recognize and support the importance and practice of breastfeeding.
  • To increase protection, promotion, and support for breastfeeding mothers/parents in the workforce.
Our coalition (CBC) is organized around the six sectors identified in the SGCTA: Mothers & Families, Communities, Healthcare, Employment, Public Health, and Research. Each Sector has a committee that is responsible for implementing actions in response to the SGCTA sectors.

Timeline and Process:
  • Nominations are being accepted until midnight on April 30, 2022.
  • The nominating committee will review and select up to 2 nominees to present to the current Board of Directors for approval of the slate on May 10.
  • All nominees will be notified whether they have been chosen to be included on the slate prior to the Board approval to confirm their acceptance on the slate.
  • The CBC membership will vote on the slate at our May 19, 2022, membership meeting. Board member terms begin June 1, 2022.
