DANIELLE (BLAKNEY) FREEMAN, LPN, IBCLC
I’m passionate about breastfeeding because I want to offer women the support I did not have when nursing my own children. I was misinformed and had no guidance. With pain and damaged nipples, I went on to successfully breastfeed all three of my children but not all moms have the same happy ending. They give up because there doesn’t seem to be a light at the end of the tunnel. How could they see it getting better without support? Since I started working in this field, I’ve learned so much about the underserved community of New Haven and found my passion in lactation. Through education and collaborative care, these families can receive the support they deserve and be able to make informed decisions. I recently worked at YNHH WIC as a WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor/CLC for the past three years. I’ve since transitioned into private practice after becoming an IBCLC. I received my Associates degree in Medical Assisting from ASA Institute in Brooklyn, NY in 2006. With my continued interest in the medical field, I completed my Practical Nursing certification in 2015. I passed the NCLEX-PN in January 2021 and passed the IBCLE exam in May 2021. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and three children. I love playing pool, bowling, and I am good at word games/Sudoku. I enjoy helping people in any capacity and networking. I hope to go further in nursing one day soon to work towards my RN and eventually Nurse Practitioner to run my own breastfeeding clinic.
